Future Friendly Family Award Winners 2010
In September 2009 I received an email from the Energy Saving Trust, as I did most months, on things to do to reduce your carbon footprint. On it was a link to the Future Friendly Awards home page. Here there were several postings of how different people were trying to reduce their carbon footprint, and lots of good ideas. We decided to share some of the things we do and then promptly forgot all about it.
In January 2010 I received a phone call to say we had made the Awards final 10. I was then interviewed for a chance to be in the final 5. I chatted for 20 minutes about the bits and pieces we do. The following week I received a further call to say we had made the final shortlist of 5 and it would go to an internet vote in March 2010. This lead us to talk to many people about what we do, the interest was amazing, with several newspaper and magazine articles being written, our local council, education and health departments all supported us as did the local paper and regional news.
It was an fantastic month, suddenly we were out, everyone knew what we were doing. As I had just stopped work to run the smallholding it was excellent timing.
At the start of April we went off down to London to the presentation at Kew Gardens. It was a beautiful day, Kew was amazing and we won!

Finalists The Kerr MacGregor Award 2013
We were nominated for this award by Meg Beresford from Wiston Lodge. The award follows the ethos and beliefs of the late Kerr MacGregor looking at ways of harnessing the sun's energy and minimising it's use.
Members of the Scottish Solar Energy Group then reviewed the nominations and chose four finalists, of which we were one.
