This has been an amazing stretch of weather. It has been largely hot and dry with the odd few days of heavy rain. The garden is blooming, often with weeds but all our salads, which make up much of our diet in this weather, are coming from the garden. I use base salad leaves which can be lettuce or lime leaves with a herb something spicy like rocket a salad veg like courgette and some flowers.
Sadly the news with bees is less good. I ordered two nucs of bees at £200 each when I discovered I had lost my bees. Due to the slow start in the year weather wise instead of them being ready at the start of June collection would be the end of June. This the slipped to mid July and is now end of July. This will probably be too late for them to bulk up over the winter so I think we will be beeless this year.
On a brighter note the elderflowers are ready to be collected for cordial and light wine, the black currants are nearly ripe as are the globe artichokes. We are also eating courgettes, Egyptian walking onions, kale, lime leaves, nasturtiums, rhubarb, and sorel in its various forms.
