Before heading off we discovered that the ash pan on the boiler was full - after three weeks, the ash was black and there were some partially burnt pellets in the ash. The latter two are a sign of too rich a fuel mix so I turned the pellet delivery volumes down and off we went.
On getting home on Monday I checked th boiler again, little difference, but I also noticed the boiler spent alot of the day - when we are not heating hot water or the house - firing up and ticking along at 10% of maximum. On speaking to the installer and checking the manual this was it maintaining the heating water temperature at up to 75C. I don't think that kind of instant heat is necessary so I cut that down and reduced the volume of pellet feed further. On checking the boiler again on Friday the ash is now dark grey as it should be, and the fuel consumption is now below this week last year.
We haven't done any more underfloor insulation this week, as I said we sickened ourselves last week, so instead we have been draft excluding the rooms we have been working in, and putting a final layer on insulation in the loft - this is now 54cm thick so should be ample.
The later part of the week has been dry so I dug a further section of the greenhouse area and optimistically ordered the greenhouse base for the 'new to us' greenhouse. We also spent an afternoon removing the solar panels for the lights and the fan from our old greenhouse ready for the big move to the front garden.
The same day we moved the chicken netting to allow for seeding of the area. We also created a protected area where the rabbit hutches live in the summer ( in shade) so they will have grass in their runs.
A restful week (??) I am looking forward to the kids getting back to school, though I miss having them at home.
