Despite this I still ended up having two forays out to get last minute items - some presents which I discovered I didn't have when I did the marathon wrap - but also filling in some of the food gaps that we hadn't got round to. The most notable one being beer. For all it is so simple to make beer we haven't got round to it so we had to buy in - an expensive past time both ecologically and financially.
This year we have produced and made some of our presents - the sloe gin and sloe vodka that are listed in the recipe section we bottled into 500ml bottles, labelled and gave. We also melted down some of our old bees wax, coloured it green - it should have been blue but we all agree it is green - and then melted the wax pouring it into candle moulds. Though small it feels really good to give something produced by us.
Christmas Day was a success. In fact a slow day with the bulk of the presents not being opened until after lunch.
We now have a thaw on outside. So everything is wet and soggy. The chicken's runs which were frozen now have puddles in them. We tried to move them but the skirts of the runs are frozen hard, we will need to wait a little longer. My husband bought some bark to put in the rabbit and chicken runs. The rabbits got theirs though it is still a bit frozen so lumpy, they are thouroughly enjoying it. It would be nice to move the chicken runs before putting their bark down, not sure if that will happen, it depends how far it thaws. Time will tell.
So we now are on the run up to New Year, which in Scotland is a big thing. So the leg of lamb is in the freezer - traditionally it is Steak Pie for New Years Day but we eat so little red meat I thought this would be a treat. I think we are ready, though I am sure I will find odd bits and pieces I have forgotten.
When the time comes we all wish you all a safe and Peaceful New Year.
