The photo has nothing to do with today's blog other than to remind me how nice the garden is looking and that it is too hot to work outside. Yes in Scotland in the middle of the day it is too hot to work.
The main thrust of my blog has to do with a trip to the vet this week. For this I use our reliable petrol Zafira bought earlier this year at a year old. It very much does the job we ask of it but it isn't a very interesting drive. This meant that as I drove to and from the vet, 17 miles each way, and then visited a friend I became obsessed with the miles per gallon monitor. Vauxhall claim a mixed mpg of about 38.9mpg we have so far only managed 33.3 mpg. On motorway driving, I was early and the roads were clear, I got the mpg up to 38.9mpg, returning it rose to 34.0mpg. This was driving at 60mph. Fine but what about A roads? Interestingly the mpg rose to 34.4mpg coming home from my friend onA roads with junctions. Again obeying speed limits accelerating gradually and braking gently too. Just shows if we have the time and inclination we can change our fuel use age without frustrating all those around us. If I had been running late or there had been heavy traffic this would have changed things dramatically. May be one for our road planners to consider:)
