This week I have planted some Lime trees to keep as shrubs for leaves for salad, a Boysenberry which I have had to protect as the chickens think it is delicious and some Egyptian walking onions. Have I lost my marbles? Quite possibly but this is all part of the push to develop a more perenial based garden and diet. We shall see how it goes. I have also cheated and bought 12 tomato plants to replace the ones lost.
In the garden the herbs are growing well, the parsnip seedlings are through and the potatoes are chitted and long over due planting.
In the house I have been trialling sourdough bread, with success at last. It appears I can make a miller's loaf with white, wholemeal and rye flour, but have had little success with any other. I'll need to keep practicing!
My husband and I have spent the week going through the vast array of stuff we had collected for the caravan over 20 years and the folding tent over about 8 months. We have repacked the camper and boxed up what we are keeping and then moved on the rest some to charity but sadly a lot to recycling.
On the back of this I have been clearing our cupboards and rooms and reorganising. A late spring clean, due to poor weather! Unfortunately, the house looks little different but at least the house is more organised.
What it did allow was time and space to spin 2010's honey. Just one super gave us 6 kg of amazing honey. Some spun out easily but some had granulated so I had to melt it out. This means I have some wax as well. I am going to have a go at making polish for the house. The bees themselves are doing fine. I had separated the bigger hive in the good weather but they had just eaten the reserves from the non queened hive and moved into the queened hive. So I have joined them back together. Once they are settled I'l try again.
This week hopefully I'll get the seeds and potatoes in we shall wait and see.
