First the allotment, we have had wet and dry weather but the days I have been free to go up to the allotment it has been wet. I did however, manage to get 20 raspberry and 20 strawberry plants planted on Friday. Thursday night just before dark I was out digging up the rasps from their old bed, this far north they are still dormant. After dark, once kids were in bed, lunches made etc, I was out with the head torch lifting the young strawberries that had taken root in the shingle path infront of the strawberry planter. The lads next door, I am sure, are now certain I have flipped. Added to this the allotment beds are being lined with old bike boxes from the local bike shop. We have asked permission from the owner who is highly amused. However, we have been spied collecting these boxes, the crossing man asked me this week what I was doing with them. My husband keeps singing the theme tune to The Wombles for me!
And then the rabbits, this was very nearly oops. I knew the older doe was due to kit the first week in April. The kitting den was ready but we didn't get round to moving them till Saturday lunchtime before heading over to drop the kids off at my parents. On returning at 4pm I popped my head round the door to see how the two does were settling in - the older one was in labour and delivered that afternoon! I will be a bit more on the ball next time. I must say she is very chilled about it all, more so than I am. The other doe Maxi is looking fed up and showing no signs of kitting so we will have to wait and see.
