The afternoon was spent in the grounds of The Royal Edinburgh Hospital where I did some of my medical training. Again great to see how others do things and that even the fulltimers don't have immaculate weedless beds. I felt much better. Also met some great people on a similar journey, it's always nice to know you are not totally out with normal.
Talking of meeting people, I didn't meet, but got an email from Linda Cockburn, of the book Living the Good Life. She had found this site. What a lift that gave me. It is amazing how much these things can spur you on on the Treacle Days. Those days when nothing goes right and you feel like you are ploughing through treacle.
By Friday I was back up at the allotment planting more rasps and strawberries. Yes you are right I did dig them out by headtorch the night before. It is OK though the guys next door already know I am unhinged. I watered everything in well.
The weekend was blisteringly hot, on Sunday my husband and I headed up to put in some more beds and the last of the rasps and strawberries. Sadly, the plants put in and watered 48 hours before were looking very dry. Those put in previously, that have endured the rain and wind of the end of March are looking good. So we built a further bed, planted the final fruits and watered like mad. My daughter and I went up on this morning (Monday) and again it all looked pretty dry. We soaked it all again, and then it rained a little, so hopefully things are getting better.
Rabbits wise, Mini the original doe and her kits are coming on well they are 9 days old and other than one heading the wrong way back to the nest and so needing some help they are doing fine and growing fur. Maxi kitted on the 7th of April so her kits are 5 days behind her mum's. All seem well, though she will stand on them while she is feeding them.
Veg wise, the chooks got into the veg plot so seedlings gone. I've put the trays of seedlings in the old greenhouse that is now temporarily in the kids play area. The seedlings were in the conservatory but the kitten liked to sleep on them , and use them as a litter tray.
Yesterday it was warm enough to have aquik look in the beehive. No brood and I couldn't see a queen so I will recheck again at the end of the week and may need to requeen.
