My husband's birthday present went down well. He was also delighted with the gift from my parents - a set of step ladders and a platform. Why does he need this? - so I can cut the hedges/ paint the guttering/ get on the roof etc. So this week as it has still been warm I have cut half of the decidous hedge and put it in the garage to be shredded. I have also bought some insulation to put round the bee hives to allow air circulation while providing insulation and I continue to feed them.
On Saturday we headed into Edinburgh by train to see the Christmas Fair and lights. At the same time we spent a couple of hours looking at and lying on mattresses. Our mattress is over 10 years old - initally bought for our previous caravan - it is 4ft wide on a 5ft bed and wasn't very expensive. So we had identified a series of British made mattresses with natural fibres and minimal carbon foot print. WHICH the consumer magazine recommended John Lewis as a place to buy mattresses and they were spot on. The service was excellent and nicely low key.
Our eco fan arrived last week but turned out to be malfunctioning so we returned it and have a replacement which is working very well - one morning this week I came through and the fan was still turning al be it slowly!
The kids are off today as it is the Public Sector Workers strike day so we are going to have a day at home doing crafty things.
