Wednesday I cycled down to Livingston and back. I popped in and did some shopping on the way back. It is so much easier to carry big things when you have the bike. I therefore cycled with my 11 year old daughter back down into Livingston on Friday as she needed new shoes. She found the ones she wanted, but not in her size so they were ordered to be delivered on Monday - and they were. We cycled back picking up my 8 year old son and his bike on the way back.
A sign of them growing up, my son has always cycled distances with a Trailgater. This is a metal arm that reaches from the back of my bike to the front of his so he can be towed when tired or on roads. For safety his front wheel is held off the ground by the arm. This week, on his new bike we discovered the front wheel is now so big it runs on the ground, so the trrailgater will need to be handed on and he will be cycling solo from now on.
Saturday son and I cycled to the library to speak to Walker homes about a proposed new development in the village. My interest is the proposed access road which is one of the problems raised at my meeting with the planners last week. Looking at the plans it looks like it can be worked round.
Sunday we had the Biggar Smallholders meeting - see www.bashsmallholders.weebly.com. We had a turn out of 5 families which was great. Lots of discussion about low impact living and what it means to different people. Lots of support and ideas to work on.
Today back to the mucky stuff. I have repotted tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley and primulas and planted dill and melon seeds that I got from the seed swap on Sunday. I've never grown melons before, it was one of the smallholders who suggested we grew one in the conservatory, we'll give it a try.
