Prior to getting away this weekend I was checking in on Mini, our older doe, and her kits. Mini had decided this year to kit in her litter tray - it was clean at the time. However, this meant there was a lip the kits needed to get over if they fell out. Unfortunately, this was all hidden by straw, and despite Mini's tolerance of me, I do have to keep a reasonable hands off approach when the kits are young. This all added together meant I had the horrible experience of finding 3 dead and 2 dying kits beside the litter/nest tray. Mini is left with 4 kits.
To add to this one of our egg laying chickens was looking unwell.Walking slowly and hunched up. I had spoken to the vet and we had put her on flubinvet incase it was a parasitic infestation. Sadly, she continued to deteriorate and needed to be humanely dispatched.
As ever despite these sad events the allotment still needs watered and the veg beds still needed weeded and planted. I planted up my herb bed this week right beside the front door in a lovely sunny spot.
This week we are also building the new greenhouse and starting to amalgamate the old and second hand "front" greenhouses. With the weather still fine this is great, though does mean regular trips up to the allotment.
