I have been aware for a while that the kids were not as comfortable with what we are doing as my husband and I are. Some of this is peer pressure, some is that the grass is greener and EVERYONE ELSE doesn't have jobs to do at home and has all the latest electronic equipment which they use all day every day and play age inappropriate games on. I'm not convinced. However, that doesn't solve the problem.
Linked to this we spent Saturday at The Red Shed, Garden Cottage, Coldstream which is a fantastic Forest Garden run by Nancy and Graham Bell. What they do is really interesting to see and very informative. It gives a very clear view of what a forest garden can be and gave a great insight to both kids of what we would like to develop. All of us came away with enthusiasm and ideas and reassurance that not only this method works well and is less work than standard gardening but also that this is possible in mainstream gardening. The fact that it is also good for the planet means it really is the Holy Grail of gardening. Thank you Graham and Nancy.
