By this time it was dark and other than checking the labrador, who had been out in another part of the garden, for evidence of being the perpetrator we could do no more. When we checked in the morning it became clear the most likely thing to have happened is that a fox got hold of her and the labrador disturbed it from the other side of a fence.
The chicken was still alive and bright too. However, on closer inspection in daylight the injury was far worse than we had previously thought, in fact her lung had been damaged so she had to be put down.
Yesterday, was a high point, my daughter two of her friends and a friend of mine ( who is one of their parents) cycled 27.6miles from home to Edinburgh as part of the scouts cycling badge. It took 6 hours, with one puncture repair, one set of seized brakes and a broken panier carrier. We then got the train home. What an experience.
Today, our kids went back to school. It is not just the kids who don't like going back to school, I hate it. I love having them at home. However, life goes on. Have a good week.
