I wasn't sure if I should title this blog "I have dog poo on my snow shovel" or whether that might upset some folk. It does however summarise this week in a nutshell. We have snow, 40centimetres to be precise, and lots more where it has been piled up off the drive - repeatedly - and where it has avalanched off the solar panels. That isn't in any of the brochures - the panels are designed so snow comes off them to allow them to work , however, if the snow is thick enough - 40 cm is more than enough - then you get avalanche type falls. Quite dramatic especially is you are under them at the time - worth a miss.
And the dog poo? Clearing paths in the garden to get to the chickens and rabbits and allow the chickens to move around has allowed the dogs and cat to move around the garden too. However, the dogs don't go off the paths - they would sink - so they poo on the paths , which are then immediately covered in snow - you get the idea.
Other than battling with the snow this week, we have generated 50 kWh of electricity which is exciting if not a huge amount.
With all the snow now covering our veg beds and the chickens too busy keeping warm and moulting - I ask you in this weather - we have started buying in veg again. We can be self sufficient in meat. Even our lifted potatoes are under so much snow we can't get at them and as for digging up artichokes.......
