So with heavy winter clothes we flew from Glasgow Airport to Keflavik then drove to Reykjavik. I have to say it was an amazing week seeing the junction of the European, North American and Icelandic techtonic plates, geysers, water falls, horseriding and best of all outdoor swimming. Other than one island off the north coast all of Iceland's heating and lighting come from geothermal energy. There are no windturbines or solar panels. They sometimes have to dump the excess electricity into the roads I believe. Thus they can afford to heat these govenment subsidised outdoor pools.
No surprises we did little driving other than to the attractions we wished to visit, we could have done these by coach but the cost for 4 was prohibitive and travelling on a bus with kids and no ability to plan toilet breaks can be hard.
This week we have been back to normal, washing, ironing and sorting out post holidays. Hopefully later on in the week I will be able to finish the insulation I didn't get done 3 weeks ago!
Oh and yes we did see the northern lights. Our carbon print for this was less than 1.5 tonnes so we have planted 2 trees to mitigate.
Have a good week
