Welcome to Gruinard
2022 - we are in the process of adding further sections to the website reflecting where our world is now and the developing knowledge of how our environmental impact, health and wealth just looking at the problem from different aspects. Please stick with us as we upgrade and add new sections. You will find some subheadings are empty initially as we put in the structure before we have chance to add the content. It will give you a flavour of what we are planning.
Gruinard is our home in Central Scotland. The house was named after the beautiful Gruinard Bay on the West Coast of Scotland. It is set in a half acre garden. The garden surrounds the house effectively dividing it into 4 areas. Within this we grow our own fruit and vegetables, have chickens for eggs and bees. We also grow some of our own fire wood and all of our own kindling.
Our aim is to run our garden as an urban smallholding, allowing us to live more sustainably and be more resilient to global changes. In 2022, with the ever tightening environmental and financial issues we have expanded the website to look at financial as well as environmental costs.
We hope our website will give you ideas and inspiration to try some of our ideas, your way. We have tried to make navigation easy, every banner and subheading has content, just click on it. If you have problems please let us know through the contact us page.
For us, this is about health and wellbeing. Getting back to where our food comes from, cutting our food miles and fossil fuel foot print, while staying fit and healthy.
All of the pictures we have used on this site are from our own house and garden. We hope you enjoy it.
The main banner picture is of our original Bernese Mountain Dog called Raven. A formative influence!
