Storing wood

As we burn logs in our wood burning stove we need to be able to store and dry logs under cover. For this we have built two wood stores. The first is in beside the compost heaps, has four corner posts with the compost heaps as the sides and a back wall made of tyres to hold heat and protect from the prevailing weather. This one tends to be used to store bought dry wood and wood that is ready for use.
A second woodstore

The second we have built using old pallets for the sides, these give structure and some weather protection whilst still allowing the wind to blow through. The roof is made of corrugated steel roofing from a friend's long gone shed. We hope to collect rainwater from this for the garden.
In here we cut and dry any wood that comes to us fresh.
The wood comes from a variety of sources. Some is from our own garden or scavenged(!) and needs dried. The majority is from a local environmentally friendly wood supplier.
